Book NowSclerotherapy involves injecting a solution called sodium tetradecyl sulfate (Fibrovein 2%) directly into the reticular or spider vein. The solution causes the vein walls to break down and the vein walls to collapse and stick together, stopping the flow of blood. As a result, the vein fades and darkens and will breakdown within a few weeks.
Sclerotherapy improves the appearance of veins in the legs.
Sclerotherapy works by injecting Fibrovein into the vein, which then causes the vein walls to collapse and breakdown. For the following few weeks, the treated veins will be broken down naturally by the body.
During the treatment, there is minimal pain or discomfort. We use a very fine needle to inject into the veins themselves. You may notice some mild itching towards the end of the treatment which can last up to 1-2 hours post completion.
Before your sclerotherapy treatment, the nurse will explain the need to purchase compression stockings or tights. They should be Class 2 or Class 3 compression and can be purchased online or in a pharmacy.
These tights must be brought in to every treatment and put on straight away. Tights/Stockings must be work for 24 hours for the first 4 days and for 12 hours on the last 3 days (1 full week). If dressing was applied, it can be removed 24 hours after treatment.

Most patients are generally satisfied with their results from sclerotherapy with as many as 50-80% of injected veins disappearing in a single treatment. Although sclerotherapy has been successful for most patients, there is no guarantee that the treatment will work for everyone. Even so, less than 10% of patients who undergo sclerotherapy don’t respond to injections. Spider veins typically fade in three to six weeks. If new unsightly veins appear, you may need to return for additional treatment.
That depends on a number of factors which can increase the risk of them reoccurring, such as genetics, lifestyle, style of work etc.
If they reoccur, you can retreat them again.
We don’t treat facial veins with sclerotherapy. If facial veins are something you want treated we recommend BBL (broad band light) and or Clear V in the clinic.
That’s depends from person to person but generally we recommend a minimum of 4 treatments at 4-6 week intervals.
