Benefits of eyelid and brow surgery

Your Procedure

Eyelid surgery removes excess fat and skin from around the eye area. The skin can be expertly tightened at the same time delivering an extremely subtle and much rejuvenated appearance. There’s an opening of the eye effect, which immediately refreshes the face. The upper and lower lids can be worked on together or separately.

Ageing of the upper half of the face includes changes in the forehead, eyebrow, eyelids, cheek and midface area:

Skin

Irregularities in skin colour / pigment / sun damage and sagging, loose skin, skin creases / wrinkles (rhytids).  Rhytids can be fine, deep, and present at rest (static) or with face movement (dynamic) – forehead creases, vertical creases between the eyebrows and creases at outer eye margin.

Brow descent (ptosis)

With reduction in distance between the eyebrow and upper eyelashes (tired, saddened look), lateral hooding (no show of normal skin fold on upper  eyelid) and loss of the gentle lateral shape of the brow arch.

Eyelid

Excess skin (dermatochalasis and /or festoons) – Both this and the former can  cause a hooded appearance – impairing the visual field and unable to apply eyelid makeup. Eyelid laxity due to structural attenuation causing the white part of the eye to become visible (scleral show), this may cause eyelid eversion / inversion.  Eyelid septal attenuation with fat herniation (Eye bags) – protrusion of the  normal eye socket fat causing a bulge. The lacrimal gland can also descend in the outer upper eyelid causing a bulge.

Midface

Increased distance between lower eyelid – cheek junction. This is due to gravitational descent – causing deep lines between the eyelid and cheek (naso jugal groove, tear trough deformity) and deepening of the nasolabial fold.

Your Journey

1. Initial Consultation

A key aspect of preparing for any surgery is that Your surgeon understands your desires and expectations. At your initial consultation, your consultant will explain the procedure in great detail, discuss your expectations and what he/she can achieve for you, ensuring you have realistic expectations of the results.

Your surgeon will also want to evaluate your current physical health and health history, ensuring you are a suitable candidate for surgery. Because this is an elective procedure, you and Your surgeon will naturally carefully discuss the benefits and risks involved, as is the case with any surgical procedure.

2. The Procedure

Brow/temple and/or eyelid lift procedures are usually performed under general anaesthetic, take one to three hours, and are carried out as day case procedures.

3. Post-Treatment

You will need someone to take you home when you are discharged by the Surgeon as you will not be able to drive. You may have bruising and swelling around the area. Your surgeon will tell you more about the typical recovery process and may make recommendations based on your individual case but by and large expect to take between 1 to 2 weeks off work. If your job is physical you may require more time. Everyone recovers differently but you can rest assured that we will monitor you closely to ensure the swiftest, safest and most comfortable recovery.

As the incisions are made in the natural folds of skin, scarring is minimal / virtually undetectable.

We are widely regarded as being the industry leader in cosmetic surgery. At River Medical, we never compromise on the level of care and attention we give each and every one of our patients, every time, and we are committed to you from procedure right through to your 24/7 aftercare.

Before and after pictures on websites can be misleading as they may not be patients of the surgeon who will be carrying out your surgery. As every person has completely different expectations and different treatment requirements, it is a much more valuable tool for your Consultant to show pictures of not only surgeries that he/she has carried out but also show you results you will be likely to achieve.
