The shape and contour of our jawline and neck is influenced by a number of factors : The jawbone, fatty volume (both subcutaneous and deep), neck / floor mouth muscles and salivary glands (submandibular and parotid tail). Our neck shape can be determined by our familial inheritance and / or extrinsic lifestyle / aging / body shape changes. This may present as neck fullness, a double chin, ill or loss of definition of the neck shape / angle, with soft or hard muscle (platysma) bands. Via an isolated incision under the chin this each of these components contributing to volume disproportion can be accurately managed / contoured / reduced to achieve a suitably contoured and proportionate neck reflective of your facial shape and contours.
Fat is taken from one area of the body and transplanted to another, subsequently growing a blood supply to survive. The fat is harvested, washed, and filtered using innovative equipment – facilitating transplantation as micro and nano droplets. Surgical refinements have improved fat graft predictability, reliability, and longevity of result. These grafts carry both structural / volume benefits and regenerative rejuvenating abilities. Fat can be then sited to several facial sites tailored and individualised to your specific needs, these include – temples, brows, eyes / orbits, cheeks, nasolabial folds, melo labial folds, lips, chin, and jawline.
Facial fat can commonly accumulate in certain sites, notably the lower 1/3 face / neck – jowls, jawline, and midline neck under your chin. Micro liposuction is a surgical technique developed to reduce their prominence. Micro liposuction is generally undertaken manually – allowing controlled, exact, and softer less traumatic suction pressures. Fullness of the cheek and jowls can also be due to buccal fat pad hypertrophy or herniation / ptosis / sagging. This fat pad sits deep to the smile muscles and open surgical removal can help to refine and balance the contour of the cheek and jowl.
A key aspect of preparing for any surgery is that Your surgeon understands your desires and expectations. At your initial consultation, your consultant will explain the procedure in great detail, discuss your expectations and what he/she can achieve for you, ensuring you have realistic expectations of the results.
Your surgeon will also want to evaluate your current physical health and health history, ensuring you are a suitable candidate for surgery. Because this is an elective procedure, you and Your surgeon will naturally carefully discuss the benefits and risks involved, as is the case with any surgical procedure.
The procedure is usually performed under sedation of general anaesthesia, takes approximately 1-2 hours and is carried out as a day case procedure.
You will need someone to take you home when you are discharged by the Surgeon as you will not be able to drive. You may have bruising and swelling around the area. Your surgeon will tell you more about the typical recovery process and may make recommendations based on your individual case but by and large expect to take one week off work. If your job is physical you may require more time. Everyone recovers differently but you can rest assured that we will monitor you closely to ensure the swiftest, safest and most comfortable recovery.
Price should not be a deciding factor with an elective surgery. Trust, experience and aftercare are absolutely key and River Medical is widely recognised as the industry leader in Ireland. We are also proud to say that we adhere to the strictest of ethical guidelines and believe that only highly trained medical staff should advise on cosmetic procedures, be it surgical or non-surgical
You will meet with one of our consultant plastic surgeons who will discuss everything with you including your expectations and desires, the procedure and the best type of procedure for you, the results as well as any possible eventualities.
You will need to take approximately 1-2 weeks off work after your surgery. If your job is physical you may require more time. You will have an element of discomfort after your surgery which typically lasts for about a week or so but this will be managed with the support of your consultant plastic surgeon and River Medical registered general nurse. Generally you can return to all normal activities within 6 weeks. We encourage patients to get back to their normal life as soon as it feels comfortable for them. We feel that this really promotes and aids a speedy and successful recovery. Everyone recovers differently but you can rest assured that we will monitor you closely to ensure the swiftest, safest and most comfortable recovery.
Your consultant will assess your suitability for lip lift and will recommend the best treatment for you at your initial consultation. He/she will also show your pictures of similar patients so that you can be confident about your expected results.
Preparation will begin with an initial consultation with your consultant plastic surgeon, followed by a meeting with one of our registered general nurses. Each one will go through every aspect of the lip lift surgery in great detail. Prior to surgery you will return for a further comprehensive pre-operative assessment with your River Medical nurse. Your consultant will be available to you right up until your surgery should you wish to see him/her again.
Your surgery will be carried at our sister company clinic, the Fitzwilliam Private Clinic in Belfast, where thousands of procedures have been carried out for more than a decade.
At River Medical, you will receive excellent aftercare post surgery by one of our registered general nurses and your consultant plastic surgeon.
Scarring is minimal as incisions are made in the natural folds of the face where possible. We use only the most advanced suturing techniques to minimise any visible scarring.
We are widely regarded as being the industry leader in cosmetic surgery. At River Medical, we never compromise on the level of care and attention we give each and every one of our patients, every time, and we are committed to you from procedure right through to your 24/7, aftercare.
Before and after pictures on websites can be misleading as they may not be patients of the surgeon who will be carrying out your surgery. As every person has completely different expectations and different treatment requirements, it is a much more valuable tool for your consultant to show pictures of not only surgeries that he/she has carried out but also show you results you will be likely to achieve.
